EX CATHEDRA ACADEMIES OF VOCAL MUSIC
Ex Cathedra complements its schools and community projects by running its own training choirs for talented young singers.
Children who develop a love and aptitude for singing have the opportunity to develop their skills further by joining one of our training choirs: the Academy of Vocal Music, for male and female singers aged 16 upwards; or the Junior Academy of Vocal Music, for boys and girls aged 7 to 16 years.
These choirs rehearse on a project basis and produce high quality performances. The Junior Academy of Vocal Music provides the choir for Birmingham Royal Ballet's Nutcracker performances. The Academy of Vocal Music provides the choir for the annual Swedish service of Santa Lucia at Birmingham Cathedral.
Other recent and forthcoming projects include the involvment of the Academy in the Rambert Dance Company's recent touring production of Eternal Light at the Birmingham Hippodrome, and the involvement of the Junior Academy in The Song Contest of the Birds and Beasts with Welsh National Opera and Birmingham Hippodrome.
The academies also contribute to Ex Cathedra's season concerts, for example, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius, Britten's St Nicolas and A ceremony of carols, Bach's St Matthew Passion (recorded live) and Bach's St John Passion.
